Academic Policies

Accessibly Formatted Course Materials for Students with Disabilities/Exceptionalities

Accessibly Formatted Course Materials for Students with Disabilities/Exceptionalities - DC employees are responsible for selecting and developing course materials that adhere to barrier-free learning environments in compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. This policy helps ensure your learning environment is inclusive, supporting your equitable access to education.

Copyright

Copyright - When completing course deliverables there are instances where you may use copyrighted material. This policy can inform what and how much material can be used from sources without obtaining copyright access. Need help? Consult with the Library. Ensure you follow the Academic Integrity policy.

Course Outlines

Course Outlines - Course outlines are essential tools that communicate key academic information and act as your “contract” with DC. This policy helps maintain clear, consistent, and transparent communication between you and your instructors.

Degree Breadth

Degree Breadth - Outlines DC’s policy on breadth (non-core) courses required in your degree program.

General Education

General Education - General education courses help with career-ready skill development and are in line with the Ontario Ministry directive. This information details how DC meets those provincial requirements.

Intellectual Property

Intellectual Property - Any content created for course deliverables is owned by you unless you have been paid by DC for services.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) - This policy provides the framework for the application, demonstration, evaluation, and recognition of your prior learning and/or experiences that may be deemed equivalent to current DC course requirements. You may be able to use previous learning to satisfy course requirements; this policy helps outline how you can apply for PLAR.

Recording of Learning Activities

Recording of Learning Activities - Recording of learning activities is encouraged at DC but must adhere to this policy. DC encourages faculty to record synchronous classes and post for students, but students much be notified in advance. You must ask for permission from faculty prior to recording any portion of a learning activity
